Introducing Mike Barnes

Mike Barnes
Director

Mike entered the insurance industry in June 1990 before being headhunted by Sovereign Assurance at age 26 to work as a business development manager in early 1996. In this role Mike developed his sales development and strategic facilitation skills.
In late 1999, Mike left Sovereign to establish Kinetic Planning Ltd, specialising in strategic planning and coaching for small business owners. Kinetic Planning was fortunate enough to be involved with 3 business entities which went on to win regional business awards.
Mike’s focus then shifted to working with accountants after being asked to join an accounting practice as a Partner in Rotorua, with the role of delivering business coaching. Time passed with Mike returning to Kinetic Planning to focus on coaching sales development skills at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, via 7 different service lines in Hamilton, Auckland and Wellington for a period of 18 months.
Mike left the coaching industry in 2004 to develop a car importing franchise, together with previous clients, which concluded in late 2007.
Keen to stretch himself once again Mike re-established Kinetic Planning, and having experienced the turbulence of running a large business first hand, developed a range of strategic planning tools aimed at helping SME business owners make tough decisions during “hard times”. These tools are now being utilised by a number of accountancy practices to which Mike consults.
